A - Capture the Amekage Empty

Sonya

“So what are the orders?” Sonya asked, walking up to Jirobou with her arms folded. They were still in the middle of the Ame camp, though it was day now. It had taken most of the night, but Sonya had gotten the surviving enemy nin to talk. They knew where the Amekage's forces were coming from now, and that he was amongst them himself. Jirobou had sent a shadow clone on the back of his bird summon immediately, and were now waiting for it to send the information back to its creator.

“Nothing yet...” he muttered, still staring into the distance. It wasn't like he was going to see anything, since the clone only went one way, but maybe it helped him think. “We do still have some time from the sound of things, but not much. As soon as we gt our orders, we need to be ready to act, no matter what they are.”

Sonya nodded. “Right, I know.”

Several moments went by, and then Jirobou suddenly stood up a little straighter, a more thoughtful look on his face. “...orders are in.”

“What are they?”

“Well,” he started, getting on his knees and grabbing a nearby twig. He used it to start drawing in the dirt. “Suna is sending reinforcements towards where the Amekage and his forces are coming from. They'll end up meeting the enemy halfway for a frontal assault. If we leave soon, we'll be able to arrive at about the same time and take them from behind, for a pincer attack.” He showed her what he meant using X's and arrows along with a very crude drawing of Wind Country.

“Our objective is to capture the Amekage. We know he's leading the attack against Suna, and we know his goals along with Tani, but what we don't know is what initiated all of it. As you can recall, when we were in that deserted village talking to that woman, she stated there was a man who came there every day to sit and wait by the fountain for someone. I think that someone was the Amekage. Whoever the mystery man is, he's the one who hired the marauders and most likely caused the disappearance of all those townsfolk. I think he's the one behind this whole thing, the alliance between Rain Country and River Country, the attack on Suna, everything.”

Sonya slowly started to understand. “And we think that the Amekage knows who this mystery mastermind is?”

“That's certainly what we're going to find out,” he stated with an affirmative nod. “But before we can get to questioning him, we need to capture him, and do do that we need to make our way to the flank of Ame's forces and attack in coordination with our reinforcements. If we do that, we should be able to come out ahead. They won't be expecting us to not only know of their impending attack, but also their location. We'll get the jump on them and take them out quickly and efficiently. Now, go get everyone ready and let's move out. We have a long journey ahead, and everyone has to be prepared.”

Sonay's stomach was doing flip flops nearly the entire time that her squad was traveling through the desert to the location of Ame's forces; and not their decoys. There was no telling when Ame would reach Suna and attack, and if they were too late then it could spell disaster. If they timed it right, however, her squad along with the Suna reinforcements would stop the Amekage before he got a chance to initiate the charge. They just had to hope they made it.

“Everyone break for the night,” Jirobou said, as they stopped well after sunset. “You have three hours to get a quick power nap, and then we're moving out again. We don't have time to waste. It's still a long way to where we need to go, but we can be there by tomorrow afternoon if we get an early start.”

Sonya took in a deep breath and slowly let it out, kneeling down and looking out onto the horizon. Somewhere out there, their enemies awaited them. Somewhere out there, the fate of their village would be determined.

“You should get some rest,” Jirobou stated, walking up next to her. “You'll need your strength come tomorrow.”

“Yeah, I know,” she said with a long sigh. “I will in a minute... I just need a minute.”

He nodded at her and said nothing, simply leaving her to herself. Several moments later, she finally managed to get herself to sleep for at least a brief rest.

The next day didn't go quite as well as they had hoped. They didn't reach the Amekage's forces as quickly as their reinforcements did, and as such, the fighting had already begun when they arrived. They wasted no time, with Jirobou leading them into the fray. From what Sonya could tell, things didn't seem to be going well for Suna's forces, with Ame outnumbering them. They had apparently underestimated how many enemies they would be facing. But now with their squad attacking from the rear, they had a chance.

The whole battle was a blur to Sonya. She had been in fights before, she had killed before, she had assassinated before, but the pure intensity and lightning fast pace of it all just blew her away. Before she even knew what had happened, she had killed too many other ninja to recall. Five? Ten maybe? She didn't know. All she knew was that she was exhausted, her chakra was spent, and she could barely stand. But it was an effort well expended, because Suna had come out on top. The only Ame nin left alive on that battlefield was the Amekage, and he was in the process of being taken into custody.

“Shit we did it...” she muttered, falling to the sand taking in deep breaths. When she looked up, she noticed a familiar face she hadn't seen in a while.

“Pretty good stuff,” Hachi said, smiling down at her.

She rolled back up to a sitting position and smiled back. “Hachi, didn't realize you were here too.”

“Kicking ass and taking names, you know it,” he said with a chuckle. “At least it's over now, though... the Amekage is in custody, and we don't have to worry about an invasion.”

“Yeah maybe...” Sonya said, glancing over at the Amekage, now bound and in the process of being transported to Suna. “That's what we're going to find out anyway... we still need to interrogate him.”
